Senator José Mayans Calls Labor Bill Unconstitutional and Predicts Its Failure

Buenos Aires, Feb 11 (NA) — The leader of the Justicialist bloc in the Senate, José Mayans, led the opposition to the labor modernization bill promoted by the Executive Branch. He denounced it as "unconstitutional" and assured that "it will fail".

"As drafted, this project is unconstitutional because it violates article 14 bis of the Constitution and also the San José Pact. It touches 41 laws, this cannot be dealt with in one day," he emphasized.

During his speech, the legislator from Formosa predicted the initiative's demise and launched harsh criticisms at the economic course of President Javier Milei's government.

"This project will fail," Mayans stated, linking the fate of the bill to the official financial plan, which he described as a model of "high indebtedness" and lack of protection for the national industry.

The senator centered his argument on three pillars: the impact on employment, the constitutionality of the norm, and federal defunding. He denounced that 561,000 formal jobs have been lost since the change in administration and compared current policies with those applied during the government of Fernando de la Rúa.

Furthermore, he classified the law as "blatantly unconstitutional" and accused the Government of using the discourse against the "caste" to cover up cuts to retirees, universities, and provinces. He labeled the area's economic officials as "usurers" and accused them of auctioning off state properties to cover the payment of debt interest.
